What are the guidelines for posting reports?
It is critical the quality of the reports on this site is as high as possible. To ensure this, we have put together the detailed posting guidelines and recommendations.
How do I assign the proper categories (locations) to my post?
It is critical that you select ALL relevant locations. If your report is for Block Island, you should also select the state (Rhode Island), and the region (Northeast). The lsit of categories appear in the right sidebar of the post editor. Select all that apply. The state is the msot important because email aletrs and twitter are sent for each state.
How do I assign the proper tags (species)?
It is critical that you tag every post with all the species that were included in the post. Simply go to that Post Tags section in the right sidebar of the post and start typing the species name. The species will appear, simply click to select it and then click the Add button. The tags are important s that visitors looking for target a certain species can select that species and see the most recent reports across all lcoations within a state or region.
How do I change my business information that appears at the bottom of each report?
This signature appears at the bottom of every post and can include logos, links, and additional information about your business. You must first login and then click the “Update Profile” link. Scroll to the bottom of the page and update your information. Be advised that we see every change made to that information. However, these updates do not need approval and take effect immediaitely.
How do I change the name that appears before the report date?
This is this display name. You must first login and then click the “Update Profile” link. Scroll down and change the nickname to the name you would like to appear (typically your business name). Use the dropdown box for display name and select the nickname.
How do I insert pictures into the post?
Click the spot in your post where you want the picture to appear. Next, click on the “Add an image” icon above the toolbar. Look for this icon ->
What is the preferred size/resolution for pictures?
The site has been formatted to display photos that have width to height ratios of either 3×4 (portrait) or 4×3 (landscape). The maximum width is 468px (6.5 inches) and the maximum height is 624px (8.667 inches). The resolution for all photos should be 72dpi.
How do I remove a picture from the post?
Click on the image and then click on the delete image icon (red circle with a line through it).
How do I change a report that has been approved or delete a report?

How do I embed my reports on another website?
The code that needs to be inserted can be found at the bottom of the page that contains allyour reports for the contributor. The link to that page (See All Reports) can be found at the bottom of every one of your reports. Click here to learn more about embedding reports and controlling the appearrance of those reports.
How do I register?
Visit the registration page. You must read, understand, and comply with the guidelines on that page. After you submit your registration it will be reviewed by us. We may ask for more information before approval. When you are approved you will be sent an email with your user name and password. You can start posting reports immediately.
How do I login to post reports?
You must first register and be approved. If you are already registered and approved you can click the Login link found in the upper right of the every page. If you forgot your password click here to reset your password.
I just posted a report and it does not appear on the site?
ALL reports are moderated. We need to do this to ensure they are formatted correctly and comply to our posting guidelines (see below). It could take several hours for your posts to be approved, but most of the time it will take only a few minutes.
How does posting reports benefit my website?
Visitors will come to the site, read your reports, and click through to your website to learn more about you. Links from this site to your website will also improve the rank of your website in the search engines.
