On Friday ,5/25, we had Shamus, Dan, Carrie and Ron……on board for a 4 hr trip.. We got word that the bite was good in the west so we were going to head to Barnstable Harbor. The word was it was happening in the channel. We exited the harbor and pointed the bow  toward the Bell Can….we reached out target in 30 mins and banked hard into the “canyon”…we found some good bird action and set out to do some vertical jigging and some top water stuff.   After getting a call from Capt. John saying that he was trolling live macks, we busted out the sabiki rigs and started to hunt for macks. It was not long before we had 20 or more in the live well.

We headed right back to the “canyon” and started our troll. We ran the macks 75 feet off the back at 1-2 kts and before you knew it, the port reel was screaming. After a nice run, the hook was set and Carrie had a nice fighting fish on the end. …after some tug –a-war….Carrie had a nice striper, landing a 29-incher…her first striper ever !!!. Pixs were taken and in the box it went.

We continued to fish the ‘canyon” however the rods were going cold and it appeared that we had lost the bite. As our day was winding down we were able to find the birds and bass splashing just inside the bell can. We were able to work ourselves in close to them, and started to toss white and pink slugo’s at them. After some casting, we were able to hook up on a nice healthy schoolie.

As our day was coming to end, we set our GPS for home…we had a great day on the water. Great people…great laughs .. great pixs …. great memories and the weather held out for us as well.

We got back to the dock, tied up and had “Dr. Shamus” perform the filleting of the striper. Fished cleaned…..iced down….. and ready for the grill !!!!
