Cape Cod Bay

capt.mark - 07/24/2012

This report is just that, a fishing report of what is going on in Cape Cod Bay..and with that said..Someone has been flicking the switches in Cape Cod Bay causing the stripe bass to start to move all around !!. The Billingates Shoals have become very quiet in the last few days in the stripe bass world, however the bluefish have come in and they are spending time all over the bay.  You can find them in deep water off the North Edge of the Shoals, you can find them off Wellfleet in an area called the “Path” in 20-30 feet of water and you can find them in the area called the “fingers” which is just NW of the  of the Barnstable entrance can in about 50 feet of water.  The choice for blues has been Hoochies (pink or orange), Umbrella rigs or tube and worms you can also grab them jigging, however that is a lot of work when you can just troll for them.

If you want a shot at some stripers, you may have to get up early.  The bite has been going off in the area of Sandy Neck (Barnstable).  It’s been in the area of 5am to 9am.  The choice of lures has been the tube and worm and the color of the tubes can change on any day.  Red, bubblegum (pinkish), black or orange are going to be what you should be carrying in your tackle bag.  Jigging has been good, however like I have said before, Sandy Neck is loaded with sand dollars and they will stack up on your jig hook, thus not allowing you a chance to get a good shot to sink the hook into the mouth of that fish.  The stripe bass in this area have been big fish, 40 + pounders, so landing that trophy fish you always thought about could happen.

This week we are slowing getting into our tournament mode.  We will be par-taking in the Joe Crowin Fishing Tournament.  This tournament is for the Jimmy Fund to help fight against cancer.

If you would like to get out and do some fishing, please give us a call and we will make it happen.  Please follow us on Face book as well as our web site, www.shannonsea.com  .  Stay safe, and think screaming drags.
