Cape Cod Bay / Barnstable Harbor

capt.mark - 06/27/2012

Well its been a very nice run in the bay as well as for the Shannon Sea, however today due to the winds kicking from the West, North West and reports of 4-5 footers on Billingate Shoals, we set our sights for Barnstable Harbor, our old friend ” The Barnstable Canyons”. We left the dock at 745 am and bumped our way across the bay till we got to our target location. Due to the structure in Barnstable Harbor (Channel) we set out the tube and worms on lead core line. We set out 3 colors on one rod and 4 colors on the other (red tube / black tube) .Well the port rod went off within ten minutes and a nice 16 inch striper was landed…Both clients looked at me with some disbelief, which I don’t blame them. I told them that it was known as a schoolie, and tossed him back. Again the tubes were set out, and not long after that the port rod goes off again and his twin brother was brought on board. Now if you add both fish up we have a keeper…again I tell them that there are more than schoolies in the channel. We toss the juvenile striper back in and again start looking for something that will make the drags scream. As we are tracking north to south, Capt Dave hits for a 30-pound striper about 30 yards in front of me. I tell my clients to stand by and we are due. We follow his track and nothing.

Well that is my fishing report. Very short and sweet, we have been fishing the shoals and deep water and slamming them…however today I got my butt kicked and kicked hard!!!!. We ended up with a total of 3 fish and if you added them up in length, they were about 40 inches and if you added the weight of all 3 fish, it was a whopping 5 pounds.

If you would like to get out and do some fishing please give me a call and we will make it happen. Please follow us on Face book as well as our web site. Stay safe and think screaming drags.
