March Fishing Madness

capt.mike - 03/02/2012

Fishing Charters in Fort Lauderdale are tough to beat. Every gamefish that swims our waters is present in Fort Lauderdale fishing waters. Sailfish are still around, mahi mahi, wahoos, kingfish, amberjacks, bonitas and blackfin tunas and SHARKS! We continue to do a lot of kite fishing this month along with putting out the big baits on the 100# tackle for the giant hammerheads, thresher sharks and makos that begin their haunt upon our waters.

The weather is still mild with light predominant winds out of the South East, perfect for kite fishing and the seas average less than three feet this month which makes for comfortable fishing for everyone. Wreck fishing this month is increasingly good as the giant amberjack AKA the reef donkey begins its southward breeding migration, staging on our deeper artificial reefs and wrecks from 150-300 ft deep. Beefy tackle is called for to lower frisky live baits to the outside up current edge of the wreck. The bite is fast and violent as the amberjack crushes and swallows your bait in the blink of an eye and makes a mad dash for the safety of the wreck. We lock the reel up and pull away from the wreck to try and coax the fish from his lair. Once safe from the entangling wreck you sit in the big fighting chair and go to battle. Be prepared for a long grueling fight with big runs, head shakes and brute force.
