Anna Maria Island and Sarasota Bay
The weather tested me to the limits this weekend. A cold front rolled in Friday night bringing the temperature down to 62 degrees Saturday morning. The water temp was still around 81 degrees on Saturday but there was a small craft advisory with winds blowing from 10-15 mph and gusts up to 25 mph. This did not stop us though. The bite was slow early in the morning but picked up around 10 am. For some reason Bonnet Sharks are all over the flats again. We hooked up to a couple of them on light tackle once again. Talk about fun. Love watching my guests hook up. The trout bight was slow, we brought in about 25 ranging from 12″ – 15″. The winter months are approaching and that means more Red Fish.
Sunday I went out with Mike Marshall from Orlando, Florida. The wind did lay down for us this morning. It was still cool and the water temp today dropped from 81 degrees on Saturday to 75 degrees today. We got to our fist stop and tied into a school of trout. We were fishing with live shrimp but after the bite stopped I got Mike to help me demo some hard baits that were given to me. We threw some shallow sinking minnows and some floating minnows. Mikes first cast his line went screaming. Mike pulled in a Big Blue. Once I got it into the boat it looked like something else got it to. There was a bite mark on it just below the dorsal fin. We continued fishing the hard baits and pulled in some more Trout, Mackerals, Skiip Jacks, and yes 2 more Bonnet Sharks. We ended this perfect weekend around 2 pm in the afternoon limiting out on Sea Trout. I am looking forward to next weekend when I take out Larry Kiberly from Lakeland, Florida.
Until then, bent rod and tight lines,
Captain Chuck Lynch
