Despite the lousy morning weather a nice crowd did show for the 2011 blackfish opener. The ANGLER II departed the dock at 7am sharp and headed east for the good, early season , shallow water bite of years past. Capt Tommy anchored up on a nice rocky shoal in about 12 ft of water and almost immediately there was life, a short tog came up for a new customer. Then the life started to build and fish after fish came over the rail with nothing real big yet. Then Capt Tommy, assuring customers that have not caught one yet that there is  indeed life down there, hands off his rod to a youngster who proceeds to land the largest fish of the day, a nice 7 lb blackfish. As the tide slowed halfway through the trip so did the blackfish bite. So it was off to find some jumbo scup that the boat has been catching the weeks prior to blackfish season and the fresh clams provided as bait fared well with a nice porgy bite for the remainder of the trip.
