Cape Cod Bay

capt.mark - 07/10/2012

Yesterday we had three guys out, who by chance were all Yankee fans.  After taking my beating as we left the harbor, we pointed the Shannon Sea towards Barnstable, the West Bar.  We had a great ride, and nice seas, so we had the lines in by 0830am.  We started out with the tubes, red and black and fished them 3 colors and the other 4 colors.  We were tight within the first ten minutes and tossed a nice 32 inch striper in the box.  We continued to stay in the area of the west bar, however we were getting reports that the marks (bass) were making their way west, (first set of campers on Sandy neck beach for a point of reference).  It was not long after getting in that area that the port rod started to bend back and line started to peel off.  We were able to get the slob to stop and then started to recover our lead core line.  When we got to the leader, we could see we had nice size keeper.  As she came along the side of the boat, we were able to net her, and bring her on board….a nice 45 incher…30 pounder.  We grabbed some pixs and tossed her in the fish box, along with the “small one”…we continued in the area, however we lost the bite…in that window, we were able to put a 30 incher in the box as well. With three fish in the box…and one being a “trophy” we called it a day.  We set the GPS for home, and settled in for the ride.  Upon our arrival, we grabbed a team photo, and then cleaned the fish.  They were bagged, then iced for them to bring home for many dinners.

The fishing has been red hot, however with the heat; it makes the stripers move all around for cooler waters.  There are some very big schools of bass in the west (Barnstable) and the tube and worm, or hoochies on wire (300 ft) have been working well.  If you get out, and find the big schools, sit tightthere are some BIG fish mixed in with them. The shoals are still good. We had an afternoon trip right after the one I just wrote about..and we hit for 5 nice keepers on jigs..Purple and red/black.  All of them fish were 32-35 inch class fish.

If you would like to get out, give me a call and we will make it happen.  Please see out pixs on Facbook as well as our web site.  We are also posting videos of some of our trips on both sites.  Stay safe, and think screaming drags.
