Outstanding Inshore/Nearshore October Fishing

Rich Knox - 10/17/2012

Absolute Florida Flats Fishing and Guide Service fishing reports for this week are very optimistic, both inshore flats fishing and the near shore reef’s and wreck fishing are nearly as good as it get’s.  The beaches are covered with bait-fish such as scaled sardines, threadfin herring, mullet even pumpkin seed shad, a live-well full of these are the beginning of a busy day of fishing heading in either direction.  Large numbers of red-fish are cruising the inshore fishing flats looking to score and gorge themselves as there spawn continues, big spotted sea trout are showing up in all the normal places Rock Piles, holes on the flat, rivers, and all estuary systems.

Snook are in the transition mode moving from there summer haunts to there winter and in between hang-outs, from the barrier islands east to up the Anclote and Pithlahascotee Rivers in our area feeding in wait of leaner times to come. Many other species are also contributing to our fishing charters success’ jack-crevalle, flounder, and ladyfish all on light tackle spinning gear spooled with 8-10 lb. test Berkley ultra cast braid. Nearshore fishing has been on fire even with the baby cold fronts coming through, Gag-Grouper is still open and the fish are on our door step in 20′ to 45 ‘ of the beach, while there put out a chum block and a flat line with the biggest sardine in the well on a spinning outfit spooled with 20 lb. test and at least 250 yards of line with a 100 lb. fluorocarbon shock leader for smoker King-Fish, there is also ton’s of spanish mackerel to be caught in between all else, don’t be surprised when a big Cobia swims up your chum slick, be ready to flip him a live bait and hold on.
