Cape Cod Bay

capt.mark - 07/30/2012

With the long hot days of summer, comes bluefish and big bass..if you can find them.  The fishing has become challenging in Cape Cod Bay, with that stated.  The bite has been happening to the  West, Barnstable / Sandwich area (Sandy Neck).  The place to go would be just a few miles west of the entrance can to Barnstable Harbor.  I would grab some tubes and some worms and set out my lead core line and follow the 30 foot contour line.  I would set one out three colors and another four colors.  When you find the marks on your fish finder, drop the engine out of gear and allow them tubes to fall right into those marks.  When you get your speed to about zero, pop that engine into gear and allow the tubes to come up  and sway right though the fish.  If you do not get a hit or go tight, turn around and drop another color and again do the same tactics.

The last week we had some North winds which brought some cancellation.  However the good thing about a North wind is that it will turn things up in the bay and move that bait that has gone into deep water back to Billingates Shoals.

If you would like some blue fish action, I would set my sights to deep water, 40-50 foot range and toss out some umbrella rigs or some hoochies.  I would point my boat towards Wellfleet or off of Barnstable.  I would run my rigs on wire line.

If you would like to get a shot at some really big.striper head west..you may have to hunt for some time, however some big COWS are being pulled out of there..30-40 lb stripers also don’t be afraid to make the run to Scortons Creek.…they say that area heated up a few days ago…just be careful of all the boat traffic in such a small area…

If you would like to get out, please give us a call and we will make it happen.  Please follow us on Facebook as well as our web site.  www.shannonsea.com.  Stay safe and think screaming drags.
