Cape Cod Bay

capt.mark - 05/19/2012

On Friday we had Nick out from NJ. Nick has been with us for over 4 years and this was his first trip out for the 2012 season. Nick is an avid top water fisherman, so we were not focusing on any trolling today, we were just on a hunt for crashing stripers.

We left Northside just before noon and ran east towards the south edge. When we got there we started scouting for the birds..however we couldn’t find any at all…so off we went north..to P-Town. We got to the area of the Bathhouse and finally found some good bird action. It did not take long before we found the stripers crashing and blasting on the surface. We tossed pink and white slugo’s at them…both worked well and before you know it we had two nice keepers in the box…. two 31 inch fish . We continued to chase the birds and bait for a while. We hooked up a few more times, however we lost them…one was ripping line for a good 20 seconds…Nick didn’t even get it to stop….

After a few hours, we set our sights for the south edge of the shoals, upon arrival, we found lots of birds and just a few boats…and not long after that we again found the stripers blasting on the surface. We hooked up with some schoolies and found a nice healthy 29-inch keeper in the bunch…which we tossed back for another day. We finished up the day with three nice keepers and tossed some 20-26 inch fish back. All in all a great day of top water action, lots of blitz’s of stripers and we had great weather and calm waters

Our lure of choice was the pink and white slugo. We did toss a green deadly dick at them however we did not have any luck with that one. The bait that the stripers were chasing were sand eels…which there was very plentiful both in P-Town and on the south edge.

If you are looking to get out on the water for a great day of fishing and some long lasting memories give me a call. Stay safe, and think tight lines…
