Back Bay Striper Fishing

capt.frank - 05/31/2012

Got Tim Hand out last night for some back bay striper fishing. We caught the last two hours of the outgoing tide and first hour of the incoming tide (not the greatest…). Really nice night, but more breeze would’ve been very helpful to keep the hordes of Gnats away. We anchored up down current of a bridge and tossed plugs and jigs into the water around the structure. We had Bass popping sporadically throughout the night. Tim drew first blood using a yellow Bomber and 4″ Pink Slug-go teaser. A double header no less! 20″ Bass on the Bomber and a small Blue on the teaser. I got the next Bass, 22″, on a Crystal Minnow, caught much deeper. Tim got the fish of the night, a 30″ F-A-T Striper on a 1/2 oz. jig head with a 7″ pink Slug-go and teaser combo. Great battle, but Tim won in the end. I ended the night with a big Atlantic Herring. We each had a few misses too. Higher tide would’ve been better, but you take what you can get. As the tide turned to incoming, a heavy fog rolled in, which made the trip back to the ramp loads of fun! We had maybe 5′ of visibility. Had an absolute blast hanging with Tim, and wish I could post a photo of him with his nice Bass, but just like the bug spray, the camera was left behind last night…

I run guided fishing trips in the waters of Cape May County, NJ by boat or from land. By boat I fish the back bays, ocean, and Delaware Bay with 1-3 anglers onboard. I will also take any number of anglers out onto the beach to surf fish, or out and about in the back bays to fish the sod banks and other structure. Families and children are always welcome! My company motto is: We Go Where The Fish Are!
