Fort Lauderdale Fishing on Happy Day Today with Capt. Zsak

capt. zsak - 01/11/2012

Mr. Richard Taylor, wife and two sons from Daytona, Ohio chartered the Happy Day Today with the Topshotfishing team to do some deep sea sport fishing.  Winds were out of the north northwest at 12-15 mph, blue skies, temperature in the low 80’s here in sunny Fort Lauderdale FL.  Sam, the 16 year old son, asked me about Shark fishing, so I told him we would do some Shark fishing before the end of the fishing trip.

We cleared the jetty’s and headed south of the sea buoy in Fort LauderdaleFL to an artificial wreck that sits in 140 ft. of water.  We had two plainers down for deep baits, and for surface baits we had two Bonita strips, two Ballyhoos and a jap feather down the center rigger.  As we approached the wreck, we caught some Bonita’s on the surface baits with a mixture of King Fish and Spanish Mackerels.

In the past couple of days, Hammerhead Sharks were sighted in 100-120 ft. of water migrating to the south.  So with this in mind, I set up one kite with two live Goggle Eyes as bait, a fresh Bonita bait on the bottom and a fresh King Fish bait on the surface.  With a half hour left on our trip, I made a move to go out to 250 ft. of water.  We reset our fishing lines with the baits and immediately the bottom fishing rod bent over.  As the line screamed off the reel, we cleared the top baits and Sam hoped into the fighting chair.  Thirty-five minutes later, his Christmas present arrived – a 150 lb. Golden Hammerhead Shark appeared from the depth.  Pictures were taken and the shark was released for another day of fishing.
